I swear to god if the person I’m marrying doesn’t tear up and have the biggest fucking smile on when I start walking down the aisle at the wedding I’m just going to turn around and leave

Does the fact that I need this mean that I am surrounded by really annoying and stupid people, or that I have anger management issues?

Hores should not be tamed. Hores should be kept wild and free. If a hore gets caught she will kick you in the face.
Dark chocolate cake with raspberry mousse filling and white chocolate buttercream.
THIS. IS. AMAZING.
WOW.
THIS IS AWESOME!!!
Peter: [proudly] I did the homework!
Me: Great! Let’s see it!
Peter: It’s at my house!
Me: Ohhhh…soooo, NOT at school with you right now…
Peter: [indignant] But I did it!
Me: Well, that makes me even sadder, because it means that you DID all the hard work and just left it at home, but now I can’t give you credit for it… bring it in tomorrow…
As a first year teacher, I’m still trying to fine-tune (/figure out) my procedures and policies about homework. One thing that I’ve found to work best is when I’m very clear about the penalties for each day an assignment is late (i.e. 3 points per day unless you contact me in advance with a compelling case). The thing is, I don’t actually assign very much homework at all. Most of it is project-oriented, or research-based (our school technology is very limited). Other times, it is finishing up a lab reflection, or doing a pre-lab reading. In these cases, it ends up being a timely matter, so when students don’t do it, I’m like, “Well, we’re about to spend the next 30 minutes delving into this…so you’re not really going to get as much out of this class…and tomorrow it will sort of be too late…]. I know there’s a good deal of evidence against homework (a teacher friend told me once: either the students know the material well already, or they don’t really know it. If they already know it well, why are you assigning them it anyways? It will be busy work. And if they don’t know it, don’t you want to be there to help them understand it? If they’re really confused, many students in this group won’t bother plodding through something on their own.)
